Of what does the work of the film critic consist? First, the critic must establish (distinguish) the author’s stage OF spiritual development, perhaps reveal how and in what direction the author can pursue “the path;” thereafter, evaluate the work, taking into account the tradition and technique with which it engages, perhaps discover new forms and consider whether they are usable or misguided; lastly, weigh the author’s moral fibre in terms of his or her stance toward the social and political reality that envelops him and toward the ideas on which it is based!
